Which AI to Use for Marketing

Matt Shumer wrote about the status of AI in coding (Feb. 11, 2026). What he sees in AI for code matches closely with what I see in AI for marketing.

I asked Gemini Pro, "Hey, look at Matt's article. Matt is a software developer and talks about GPT-5.3 Codex and Opus 4.6 AI for coding. I teach marketing. How does Gemini Pro 3.0 AI compare for marketing?"

Gemini Pro's reply: Matt Shumer is focused on Codex for autonomous engineering, but your work is centered on multimodal synthesis, strategic planning, and ecosystem integration. As of February 2026, Gemini 3 Pro is the leading multimodal AI. Here's how it compares to GPT-5.3 Codex and Opus 4.6 for code and marketing.

Creative & Multimodal Dominance

While Opus 4.6 is the architect for code and GPT-5.3 is the speedster for logic, Google Gemini 3.0 Pro is the leader in visual and sensory intelligence.

  • Video & Audio: For social media and campaign analysis, Gemini 3 Pro outperforms others on benchmarks like Video-MMMU (87.6%). It can watch a 30-minute raw video and identify the exact moment of peak emotional resonance for a 15-second cut, a task Opus and Codex still struggle with.
  • Nano Banana Pro: Gemini's integrated image generation (via Nano Banana Pro) handles text-within-images and real-world lighting better than the current DALL-E iterations.
  • Veo 3.1: In marketing, speed to asset is everything. Gemini 3 Pro allows you to generate professional-grade video content directly within Google Vids, including AI avatars for localized messaging.
  • NotebookLM (NLM): Use NLM to create a knowledge base (up to 500,000 pages of text) and generate analysis, summaries, reports, etc. and export to Gemini.

Strategic Utility (Long-Horizon Tasks)

Marketing isn't just drafting copy; it’s managing a long-horizon strategy.

  • Vending-Bench 2 Leader: Gemini 3 Pro currently tops the leaderboard for simulating long-term business goals. While Opus is great at planning a codebase, Gemini is better at navigating a market, maintaining consistency in brand voice and strategy over months of simulated data.
  • Deep Research Agent: Launched recently, the Deep Research Agent can autonomously plan and execute multi-step market research, synthesizing competitive audits from live web data and internal docs, a massive efficiency gain for GTM strategies.

The Google Moat (Ecosystem Integration)

For a developer, API latency is the metric. For a marketer, contextual friction is the killer.

  • Personal Intelligence: Unlike the isolated chat boxes of OpenAI and Anthropic, Gemini has Personal Intelligence. For example, it can securely access your Gmail, Calendar, and Drive to draft a QBR (Quarterly Business Review) based on your actual campaign results without you having to manually upload CSVs.
  • Agentic Browsing: Gemini auto browse in Chrome allows you to automate repetitive tasks like competitor pricing scrapes or social media community management directly in the browser.

Comparative Table for Marketing Workflows

Feature GPT-5.3 Codex Claude Opus 4.6 Gemini 3 Pro
Best For Rapid experimentation & vibe coding small tools. Deep reasoning & massive document analysis (1M context). High-fidelity content & strategic ecosystem tasks (1M context).
Multimodal Strong, but secondary to text/code logic. Excellent text/vision; lacks native video/audio generation. State-of-the-art in video/audio/image synthesis.
Strategy Tactical; great at fixing specific errors. High; the best planner for technical projects. Strategic; best at market simulations & long-term goals.
Marketing Moat Speed & iteration. Reliability & reasoning depth. Integrate with NotebookLM, Docs, Sheets, Gmail, Search.

The Bottom Line: If you build software or apps, use Opus or Codex. If your work is growth-focused, which requires synthesis of vast amounts of market data, generate multi-format assets, and operating within the Google/Apple productivity stack, use Gemini Pro.

Closing Note: As Matt points out, AI evolution is rapid and there is no end in sight. At the moment, the Google Gemini is excellent for marketing, however, things may change in six months. I constantly watch AI tools to use the best solution.

I also recommend AI sovereignty: Build your projects to be AI sovereign: you own and control your data. Don't let vendors lock you into their platform. You should be able to move your data to whatever works best for you.
